Imagine a game to where you could just see it, say to yourself “hey this would be kind of fun to play”, pick up the controller and figure out how it works within about 30 seconds. You would then proceed with a nice intro level and see yourself moving around gracefully and telling yourself that you are a true game master and that you can play anything put in front of you. You also tell yourself that you think you would have this whole game completed within an hour or two because you are just throwing the levels to the ground in speed and completeness. Then, Whoops!, you failed that level. Purely a lapse in gaming prowess. It finally hits you, you are not as awesome as you think because you are starting to get frustrated. This is how Alien Spidey works. It’s a beautifully executed and easy to play, but the levels suddenly get super challenging making it one of those games you keep playing to win. Just one more level you tell yourself.

Alien Spidey is an action-platformer in which you play as a spider who has crash landed with his girlfriend. Sadly though, some evil guy snags your spider chick and you get pretty pissed because your main spider squeeze is now gone. So it’s your job to run around and gather all of your power orbs to fix your ship and to get your girl back. There are three areas that you will be playing in: Cave, Pond, and Forest. As a spider, you will need to run through these areas without touching the bugs or nasty pieces of ground by shooting your spider web up at the ceiling so that you can swing over them. On the Xbox version, you will use your X button to shoot your web straight up, or use the right control stick to shoot in the direction you point. Which is something you will need to master rather quickly to start to get through the world you are in. Each level gets progressively harder and in certain areas, you will get power ups that allow you to go under water or jump higher. Essential needs to have before you progress through the level, otherwise you can use the Y button and quickly restart at the checkpoint that you last past. This is a feature you will begin to use plenty of times.

Alien Spidey has been in development for about 1.5 years and is expected to be released on pretty much every environment you can think of: Mac and PC via Steam, Xbox 360 via Xbox LIVE Arcade, and PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network. Because these games are hooked up online, you and your friends will be able to compete against each other via high score saves. Which means that as you finish a level, you will be able to see your friends and how they finished the level, giving you a bit of a challenge to push yourself to collect power orbs and make cleaner runs. Alien Spidey is really a fun game and I can see playing the game at a party with some friends to see who can do better or just sitting back and playing something in a mindless fashion.
