Ugly Americans...An Ugly review

Ugly Americans: Apocalypsegeddon is a great side scrollerthat plays a lot like Robotron, or Gauntlet whichever one you liked playingbetter…that’s the one it’s like. If you haven’t seen Ugly Americans you shouldcheck it out. It airs on Comedy Central, and it’s hilarious. I was fortunateenough to get to play a level of UA: A at PAX. Not only was the gameplay funand easy to pick up, the dialogue in the game is hilarious. So what can I saybefore I really dive into this thing? It’s a game based off a TV show, watchthe show then double your enjoyment and thank me later.

So, if you made it through the first paragraph, congrats.Now let’s get into the nuts and bolts of this sweet game. Ugly Americans issimple and follows the TV show, all the characters are in there and the voiceactors that are in the show are also in the game. It is a dual analog shooterwhich does take a bit of getting used to. I was having a hard time hitting mytarget, once I found my weapon of choice and got the depth of the environmentdown I was ready to whoop some man bird ass.

There are 4 characters, all with their own unique abilities.You can play as Callie Maggotbone, Leonard Powers, Frank Grimes, and MarkLilly. I played as Callie most of the time because she seemed the most nimbleof the characters, and I needed nimble when all those damn man birds weretrying to crap on me. The environments are nice and flow well except it is hardat first to notice the depth of the playing area because of how it is drawn. Italked about this earlier so it must have torqued me more than I thought.

The objective is pretty straight forward; take all the crazyass weapons that you find by smacking around enemies, or destroying theenvironment. My favorite weapons were the hammer, and the paint buckets. Youcan also find anything from baseballs to rockets. If you wanted to use it as a weaponyou can find it in here. You can crank up your badass-ness and your specialabilities by finding a demon baby. They are hidden around the environments.Keep your eyes peeled because they are definitely worth adopting.  If you can’t find a weapon they can also bepurchased as well as gained by leveling up. You will need all the help you canget as you go through the cases of the Department of Integration and discover whois trying to bring on the end of days.

The game stands well on its own, and it has a classic gameplay style that is fun any time, besides what is more fun than killing a zombieby lactating fire… just sayin.  UglyAmericans: Apocalypsegeddon is available now for psn for 9.99 and XBL for800MSP.
