Our first developer meeting at PAX Prime 2011 was with the The Game Bakers. Coming straight from Paris with a shop of roughly 5 developers, a new casual game title was in hand for a preview. Entitled SQUIDS, you will embark on an adventure with a very small army of squids to attack the bad creatures of your underwater kingdom due to some black goo being released into the water. Being that you have squids under your control, you will use your iPhone/iPad to stretch and fling them across the screen. Hitting your infected crab enemies along the way. The Game Bakers likes to refer to the game as “Angry Birds meets Worms” because with the stretch and fling action, you also have the power-up turn based gameplay of the familiar Worms games. Each of your squids can be easily boosted throughout the 22 levels of gameplay enhancing each of their unique characteristics along the way.  nhancements rang from basic power-ups to helmets to clothing, all of which will help you defeat the big boss at the end of the game.

When we met up with The Game Bakers, we were delighted to see Audrey Leprince, a producer of several Ubisoft games. You know, AAA titles like Splinter Cell Double Agent and Tom Clancy’s EndWar. Considering the way the game looks on paper, we were not surprised to see how this early view of the game was already moving and playing so well. With a fantastic cartoon like world, exceptional music and sound, and endearing characters, this game is going to be perfect when trying to play casually by yourself, or with the future plans of using your iPad to set up a local network and play against or with each other.  After reading this, and viewing the games trailer, you can see this is going to be one of those addictive games you MUST have when it comes out.  No fear for you Android and Windows Phone 7 people, expect the game to be available right after the October, 2011 release to the iOS platforms.
